Yayi beats sitting senator Odebiyi to clinch Ogun West ticket

The ‘West to West’ mantra received a boost on Saturday as Senator Solomon Adeola popularly known as Yayi clinched the ticket for the Ogun West senatorial district.

Remember ‘West to West’ emerged from the stance that Yayi moved from Lagos West to Ogun West.

Yayi floored the sitting senator, Chief Tolu Odebiyi who had only did just a term. Both of them contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Yayi who is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, defeated the only competitor Odebiyi by scoring 294 votes cast by the 295 accredited delegates.

The primary election held at Oronna hall in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government, and was monitored by officials of Independent National Electoral Commission led by Mr Kolapo Ademole, and the APC Ogun West Senatorial Primary election panel led by the Electoral Officer, Dapo Odekoya.

Announcing the result, the Electoral officer, Mr. Dapo Odekoya said Senator Solomon Adeola scored the 294 votes cast while Chief Tolu Odebiyi did not record any vote.

According to him, Yayi scored 49 votes from Imeko-Afon, 80 votes from Ado-Odo/Ota, 60 votes from Ipokia, and 55 votes from Yewa North and 50 votes from Yewa South Local Government Areas.

Earlier, Chief Odebiyi while speaking with journalists had expressed his confidence on returning to the Senate, stating he was the only candidate in the race.

He had stated that two other contestants Gboyega Isiaka(GNI) and Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade had opted to view for the House of Representatives seats.

Shortly after the announcement of Yayi’s victory, the whole Ilaro and his environs went agog with funfare and excitement.
