Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto has been elected Kenya’s fifth president, the country’s electoral commission has announced.

Shortly after the results were announced, he had tweeted: “Thank you Kenya for biggest honour of my life. I am ready to serve you.”

With this feat, he had defeated the outgoing president, Uhuru Kenyatta who is billed to leave office later this month.

However, there has been a mixed reactions from both camps.

Reports had it that the national tallying center descended into chaos shortly after Odinga’s coalition rejected the results.

Ruto had a humble beginning of being a chicken farmer who rose to prominence in Kenyan politics.

Opinion polls had favoured Raila Odinga, but the outcome of the election shocked so many analysts.

There are daunting tasks ahead of Ruto as Kenya currently reels under youth unemployment and ailing economy.
