A week after three teenage highway robbers were arrested at Alapako axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway by men of the Ogun State command, two of their fleeing colleagues had also been nabbed at Lokoja, Kogi State.
The two suspects were Yinusa Isah and Ibrahim Muhammed.
Recall that the gang had on Friday 17th of July blocked the Alapako- end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway way, wielding machetes, stopped a Mazda commercial bus with two occupants and dispossessed one of them of cash sum of N545,000 and a itel phone after beaten them.
The operatives of the command at Owode-Egba division were alerted and they went to the scene and three suspects were arrested, who were all teenagers of Fulani extraction.
The suspects were Uzefa Idris, Adamu Yakubu and Ayuba Buhari, and their colleagues were said to have fled into bush on sighting the policemen.
However, operatives of the Ogun State command Special Anti-robbery Squad led by Tijani Muhammed, a chief superintendent of Police, who took over the case traced the two fleeing members to Lokoja on Friday 24th July and they were promptly arrested.
The Ogun state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said, “The remaining two members of robbery syndicate operating on Lagos -Ibadan Expressway have been arrested by operatives of state’s Special Anti-robbery Robbery Squad.
“The two suspects, Yinusa Isah and Ibrahim Muhammed, were traced to Lokoja in Kogi State by the CSP Tijani Muhammed- led SARS who took over the case from Owode -Egba division where three members of the gang were earlier arrested.”
He said the three suspects earlier arrested were transferred to SARS where they made useful statements “that led the operatives to Lokoja where the remaining two fleeing members of the gang were apprehended on the 24th of July 2020.”
Oyeyemi listing the items recovered from them to include three cutlasses and a wood crafted to look like a gun.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered that the stretch of the expressway be properly combed to rid it of criminal elements.
Oyeyemi added that the CP also directed a 24 -hour physical police presence on the highway so as to guarantee the security of lives and property on the highways accross the state.
