Two die, nine injured as commercial vehicle veered into bush

Twopersons died while nine others were injured as a Toyota Previa commercial vehicle veered into the bush on Sunday along Abeokuta -Siun-Kobape Expressway in Ogun State.

The two persons who died were said to be the driver of this vehicle and a toddler inside the same vehicle.

This latest accident came about 24 hours after another one happened on that road around Day Waterman College in which five persons died including a medical doctor and three others were injured.

Traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps indicated that the accident occurred at exactly 5.54pm.

The Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said the driver of the Toyota Previa with number plate KSF 145 HN was speeding, lost control of the car and it hit Toyota Avensis with number plate AAA 391 HN ahead of it before it (Previa)veered into the bush where it hit a tree.

The impact, he said, forced the Toyota Avensis to hit an electric pole.

He said the two cars were travelling outward Abeokuta and the accident occurred at Kobaje junction.

Akinbiyi said the injured passengers were taken to both General Hospital at Ijaiye and Federal Medical Centre,Idi Aba, Abeokuta where they are receiving treatment, as the deceased passengers’ remains had been deposited in a morgue.

He said, “According to eyewitness account, the driver of he Toyota Previa commercial vehicle was on top speed when he suddenly lost control,  hit the Toyota Avensis vehicle from behind before it veered into the bush, hit a tree resulting into the death of the driver and a male child.

“The Toyota Avensis ran across the median and damaged an electric pole in the process.”

Akinbiyi said apart from TRACE, other agencies involved in the operation were Federal Road Safety Corps, and the police
