Two die, 10 injured as two vehicles collide along Abeokuta-Ibadan Expressway

A female adult and a male minor died while 10 others were injured in an head-on collision road crash involving two commercial buses on Wednesday at Akankan village, at Odeda Local Government Area along the Abeokuta-Ibadan highway.

Traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps indicated that the two ill-fated buses were travelling in opposite directions when the accident occurred.

The Public Relations Officer,TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said the accident was caused by the reckless driver of a run-away truck who was trying to overtake the commercial bus heading towards Ibadan and in the process hit the bus from behind forcing it to face the oncoming bus.

This he said led to the fatal accident. He said the parents of the minor who were also inside the same vehicle only sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Akinbiyi gave the description of the buses as a Sprinter bus number plate LSD 937 HE and a

Ford bus with number plate AKM 801ZW

Giving the total number of occupants in the two buses scene, he said they were 16, consisting  8male adults, 6 female adults, 1 male minor and 1 female minor.

Meanwhile, he added that the injured passengers were rushed to the General Hospital Odeda where they are receiving treatment.

The corpses of the victims had been deposited in the morgue of the same hospital.

While the TRACE Corps commiserates with the families of the deceased, it warned motorists to exercise caution while overtaking and ensure it is carried out when it is safe to do so.
