Truck veers off road, crushes two persons, vehicles in Ogun

A Mack truck with number plate AA 552 XY reportedly veered off its own lane and crossed over to the opposite lane crushing two persons, injuring three others and destroying other vehicles in the process.

Traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps indicated that the truck was descending the Sango-Ota flyover when its brake failed and the driver lost control before it veered off its course.

The Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the accident occurred at Joju Area opposite Fidelity Bank on Thursday.

He said those who died were riders of a tricycle with no number plate and a Boxer motorcycle with number plate AKM 968 VP.

Other vehicles affected were Toyota Camry with number plate KJA 226 GP, Toyota Camry with number plate KJA 226 GP, MAN diesel truck with number plate AGL 554 XB,Passat with number plate KTU 691 AE and Toyota highlander number plate MUS 88 CG.

Akinbiyi added that the corpses of the victims had been deposited at the State General Hospital, Ifo, while those injured were seeking treatment in private hospitals.

Meanwhile, all the vehicles involved in the accident had been taken at Sango Divisional Police Station for more investigation..

While TRACE Corps commiserated with the families of the deceased, it warned motorists to ensure proper and adequate maintenance of their vehicles, “particularly during this festive season, when there is a high volume of human and vehicular traffic, in order to prevent avoidable fatalities and loss of property.”
