Truck kills two, injures one other as it fails brake in Ogun

Twopersons were killed while one other was injured when an Iveco truck suffered brake failure at Oju Ore Roundabout in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government area of Ogun State on Saturday evening.

Traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps the accident occurred at 5.59pm.

The Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said the articulated vehicle with the number plate LAR 13 XB was coming from Atan Ota heading towards Sango under bridge along Lagos- Abeokuta Expressway.

He said as soon as the the brake of the vehicle failed the driver lost control of it, and it rammed into the crowd usually made of commercial motorcyclists, passers-by and ticketing officials of various unions, killing two and injuring one other, while others scampered for safety.

Akinbiyi said with police permission the families of the deceased had taken possession of the corpses while the injured is undergoing medical attention.

He said, “According to the driver of the truck account, the truck was coming from Atan Ota heading towards Sango under bridge along Lagos Abeokuta Expressway.

“But on getting to Oju Ore Roundabout the IVECO truck developed a mechanical fault which resulted to brake failure and the driver lost control of the truck and as a result it rammed into the roundabout while three person among those standing at the roundabout were affected.

“Two were crushed  under the truck and one injured in the process.”

Akinbiyi said all the victims were males.

While TRACE commiserated with the families of the victims, it warned drivers and owners of articulated vehicles to ensure their vehicles are adequately and properly maintained before setting out on a journey.
