News reaching this platform indicated that a loaded petrol tanker crashed and exploded at Ajegunle Bus Stop axis along the Lagos- Abeokuta Expressway early this morning Friday 22nd April 2022.

The incident which occurred at 2am consumed many shops and one person was said to have also been consumed by the inferno.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with this medium, the Zonal Commander, Sango-Ota Unit of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Kunle Ajibade confirmed the incident as he  said he equally deployed men and equipment to the scene as it happened at the border of Lagos and Ogun state.

He said, “The incident occurred around 2am. The fuel tanker travelling outside Lagos fell and later exploded.

“We stormed the scene joining other relevant agencies from Lagos. Only one person died in the inferno that we discovered but a lot of shops along that axis were razed.”

Ajibade told our correspondent that the agencies were able to manage the scene because it was not during hours of business, when a lot of activities were on.

However, some residents said many lives were lost in the raging inferno as some residents besieged the scene and started scooping fuel and they were caught up in the explosion.

Ajibade said the fire has been put out by the combined operatives of the fire services from both states.

TRACE operatives  are working in collaboration with LASEMA to see that normalcy is restored on that axis,  as efforts are ongoing to remove all obstruction from the road.

Meanwhile, motorists are advised to obey the traffic officers on ground (TRACE ,LASTMA,FRSC and Papa Oscar) as traffic diverted to the other lane inbound Lagos to ease the flow of traffic between Ajegunle and Sango Tollgate.
