The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has ascribed and dedicated his victory at the Supreme Court to God and the people of the state.

The apex court on Tuesday struck out an appeal by the immediate past Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress challenging Adeleke’s victory in the Saturday July 16, 2022 Osun governorship election.

Oyetola claimed there was overvoting in some units. But a five-man jury dismissed Oyetola’s appeal, saying it lacked merit, and upheld Adeleke’s win at the Appeal Court.

Elated Ademola Adeleke who contested under the Peoples Democratic Party thanked the people for their support, linking his victory to divine intervention.

“I describe this victory as one dedicated to the Almighty God and the people of Osun,” he said. “They stood by me to let me know that they love me and I love them back.”

Shortly after the Supreme Court verdict, President Muhammadu Buhari called on Osun citizens to team up with Governor Ademola Adeleke to develop the state, even as he congratulates him.

.
The statement released by the Special Adviser to Mr. President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina read partly, “President Muhammadu Buhari recognizes the Supreme Court’s verdict on the July 16, 2022 governorship election in Osun State, as well the important role of the judiciary in deepening rule of law and democracy.

“With the final decision by the Court, the President reminds the political class and their supporters that the main task at hand is to make the people feel the impact of good governance, where a prosperous, peaceful and stable Osun is guaranteed.

He called on all citizens and residents of the state, particularly her notable sons and daughters, to give the government of Senator Ademola Adeleke all the support “it needs to ensure that programmes, policies, plans and aspirations fashioned to make individuals and businesses flourish succeed.

“Elections should be seen as the path to an end, which is the progress of the people in a peaceful environment, rather than unending bickering. This is the time for inclusion and harmony in the State at the end of litigation.”

The President thanked the people of Osun for contributing immensely to the development of the nation, particularly through the State’s rich cultural heritage, the several historic sites and tourist attractions, including the Osun-Osogbo sacred groove, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

“The President trusts that the government will continue to develop the boundless resources in the State of the Living Spring, complementing the roles of the government at the Centre on national development and prosperity,” the statement indicated.
