One dies in Ogun as truck pushed Toyota SUV into river

A lone occupant of a Toyota Rav 4 Sports Utility Vehicle lost his life on Monday when an Izuzu truck failed brake and it pushed the SUV in its front into Iju river along Iju-Idiroko Road, Ogun State.

Though the ill-fated truck pushed another TVS tricycle  popularly called Keke Marwa in the process, no one died among the passengers in the tricycle. Akinbiyi gave the number plate of the Izuzu  Truck as XV 229 EPE while he did not give those of the Toyota RAV 4 and the tricycle.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the sad incident, said the vehicles involved were all travelling towards Atan-Idiroko from Sango-Ota axis when it occurred.

He said, “The Isuzu truck, which was behind the white Toyota Rav 4, lost control  due to brake failure, and hit the Toyota Rav 4 from the back, and it fell on its side into the Iju River, with the driver losing his life on the spot.

“The Toyota Rav 4 driver was the only one in the vehicle when the incident happened.”

Akinbiyi added that the Isuzu truck driver and his motorboy have been arrested and taken to Onipanu  Divisional Police headquarters at Ota,  while the corpse of the Toyota Rav 4 driver has been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ota.

While the TRACE commiserates with the family of the deceased, it warned drivers, particularly articulated vehicle drivers to adequately maintain their vehicles and attend to India sounds promptly in view of its attendant consequences.
