Ogun police nab two fake policemen, one other with stolen handset 


Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command say they have arrested two men who impersonated to be police officers in Ibogun Town, Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects are Tajudeen Bankole and Fawoyi Rotimi.

Police report indicated that they were nabbed on the 23 June 2921.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the duo were arrested following a distress call received from one Ibikunle Idowu that the two men came to his hotel,presented themselves as police officers and demanded an unspecified amount of money from him.

 The state police spokesman explained that the hotelier stated further that the two men were threatening to bundle him into their car if he refused to meet their demand.

Acting on the distress call, Oyeyemi added that the Divisional Police Officer, Ibogun, CSP Samuel Oladele mobilised his men and moved to the scene where they met the two men and got them arrested.

He said during interrogation, one of them confessed being a dismissed policeman while he stated further that the other one used to be an informant.

Oyeyemi said they confessed further that they were passing through the area when they discovered that they did not have much fuel in their car and they decided to extort the hotelier in order to get money to fuel their car.

He stated that items recovered from them were two forged police warrant cards.

In a related development, operatives of SWAT also apprehended one Oduola Abiola for impersonating to be a Civil Defence officer.

 Oyeyemi added that the 31- year- old suspect was arrested when a stolen phone was traced to him at Ibara area of Abeokuta.

He said the suspect was arrested with a complete civil defence uniform which he claimed to have stolen from a civil defence officer.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta for further investigation.
