Ogun police nab cleric for shooting guest worshiper during vigil

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command say they have arrested the shepherd in charge of a Celestial Church of Christ Jesu Yan parish, situated at Olambe junction Akute Ogun State for attempted murder and unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm.

Crime report from the command indicated that the suspect, Pastor Ayodele Omope was

arrested for allegedly shooting 18-year-old Kemi Johnson a guest worshiper who had intended to join a vigil holding in the church.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said Kemi who’s a househelp and a driver Deji Olaketan had dropped off their female boss at the airport, and took the vehicle to the house of their boss’ relation as she had directed.

He said but while on their way home, they were informed that the Oro sacrifice was ongoing at Olambe area which made it impossible for them to pass through the area.

Oyeyemi added that they then saw a Celestial church where vigil was ongoing and decided to join them since it was already late in the night.

He explained further that while they were at the entrance of the church, the suspect who happened to be the shepherd in- charge came out with a pump action rifle and before they could utter any explanation, he shot Kemi Johnson on the leg.

He said after this sad incident her co-worker, Deji reported the matter at the Ajuwon divisional headquarters of the command and the Divisional Police Officer, SP Andrew Akinseye quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.

Oyeyemi said the victim was quickly rushed to Ifako Ijaye General Hospital, from where she was referred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital and finally to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi Lagos.

He disclosed that the pump action rifle and five live cartridges had been recovered from the suspect.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
