In order to ensure safety and eligibility of motorists on Ogun State roads, the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service in collaboration with other sister agencies embarked on road taxes enforcement in Abeokuta

Speaking on the enforcement exercise in his office at OGIRS headquarters in Abeokuta, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Revenue and Executive Director II, Mr Adegbenga Adeshina said the exercise was primarily to check adequacy of drivers’ documents to ensure they were eligible to drive in the state and also to ensure safety of people and goods.

He said, “The essence for road enforcement is to ensure that people who drive on the road are eligible and vehicles are in good state.

“So, basically before the revenue aspect, the safety of the people, their goods and vehicles are paramount reasons for the exercise according to the mandate of the state Governor.”

The Special Adviser added that possessing proper vehicle documents was of great benefit to road users as the documents contained vital information that could be of assistance in case of the unexpected.

Adeshina urged motorists to comply voluntarily by visiting any of the 34 tax stations and 6 Zonal Offices of OGIRS across the state to get their vehicle papers done

The Director Legal Services, Mr Temidayo Sokunbi in his remarks said the exercise would be carried out across the state.

He said, “The enforcement exercise has been on for some days now, starting with Abeokuta zone. Next week we will be covering Ijebu Ode zone and it will be done like that until we cover the whole state.”

Sokunbi advised motorists to do the needful on their vehicles by ensuring that their vehicle documents are up to date saying this would generate fund for the government to implement more developmental projects across the state.

Agencies that collaborated with OGIRS for the exercise include officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps and Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps.
