Just in: Complete shut down, as ASUU extends strike

The hopes of students to resume academic activities in public universities have been dashed again. The strike continues…

That is the verdict of the National Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Universities this morning Monday at its headquarters at the University of Abuja.

Recall this lingering strike started on 14 February – six months and 15 days ago.

The battle has become that of wits and ego, as both the Federal Government and the striking union had refused to shift ground.

The National Executive Council of the union overwhelmingly voted against the resumption over some unresolved issues with the Federal Government.

President of the ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke is expected to issue a press statement making the union’s stand known.

ASUU’s demands included government’s implementation of the Memorandum of Action on funding for revitalisation of public universities, which was signed in December 2020.
