Gunmen kidnap traditional ruler in Ogun


A monarch, who is the Oba Alade Meta of  Imope land, a community in Ijebu Igbo area of Ogun State, Oba Tajudeen Omotayo,  was reportedly kidnapped by some yet to be identified gunmen on Saturday.

The details surrounding his abduction was still sketchy at press time.

However sources within the town said the monarch left his palace around 11am in his butter -coloured special utility vehicle with number plate W 3J9 Ogun for Ijebu-Ode.

It was gathered that the monarch was returning to Ijebu- Igbo around 3:00pm, when he was allegedly accosted by gunmen at Okeeri of area of Imope and took him away leaving his vehicle on the road.

When contacted, the Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed that the police heard of a kidnap in Ijebu Igbo, but could not tell if it was the traditional ruler.

He, however, said policemen had been drafted to the area to rescue the abducted monarch.

A number kidnap cases had been recorded in the state in recent times.

Recall that two female students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Aiyetoro campus were abducted but rescued by the police recently, and they had been reunited with their parents and loved ones.

The police in the state had earlier also burst a family of seven who specialised in kidnapping in Sagamu Area.
