Gunmen invade church, abduct three worshippers, demand N6m ransom

Gunmen have reportedly abducted three worshippers in a white-garment church during a vigil early hours of Sunday.

The church, Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Ona Ara Parish is located close to a rail line in Obada Oko axis, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident to journalists, adding that the anti-kidnapping unit of the command had been mobilised to the area.

It was gathered that the three victims taken away by the gunmen were, Mary Oliyide Adebare Oduntan, and Ifeoluwa Alani-Bello.

A source said the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N6m from their relatives.

The state police spokesman reiterated that the command had warned churches against night programmes and mountain prayers in areas considered to be isolated.

“If at all such places of worship want to have a night programme, they should inform the police so that police patrol could be extended to such area and adequate security provided,” Oyeyemi said.
