Governor  Abiodun nominatesTASUED VC, former NUJ chair as commissioners


Determined to entrench effective governance, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has forwarded the names of the current Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, and a former President, Nigeria Union Journalists, Abdul-Waheed Odusile as commissioner-nominees to the state House of Assembly for secreening.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Kunle Somorin, in a statement, explained that the governor gave the letter to the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo on Friday.

It indicated that while Arigbabu would head the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Odusile would superintend the Ministry of Information and Strategy.

Apart from these two, four others were equally appointed by the governor into different positions.

The four include two new General Managers for the State Signage and Advertising Agency, and Parks and Garages Development Board who are Fola Onifade and Sesan Asenuga respectively.

Others are Tolu Bankole who has been appointed as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor while Ifekayode Akinbode will serve as a Media Consultant.

The statement added, “that Odusile, until recently, served as President of the Federation of African Journalists, and has considerable experience across the broadcast and print genres of journalism, spanning three and a half decades.

He has equally held various newsroom management positions, including being the pioneer Editor of National Life Newspaper and Managing Editor of The Nation. He was also at different times on the staff of National Concord and ThisDay Newspapers.

Odusile holds a Master’s degree in Legal Studies and belongs to a number of professional associations, including Nigerian Guild of Editors, and West Africa Journalists Association among others.

The Commissioner-nominee for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu is said to be a Professor of Mathematics Education, and holds a PhD from the prestigious University of South Africa, Pretoria in Mathematics, Science and Technology with specialisation in Mathematics Education.

As a Mathematician and Mathematics Educator, Prof. Arigbabu has been involved in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education and preparation programmes in Nigeria in the last two and a half decades.

The statement added that in addition to this, he was a visiting Professor in the Department of Science and Technology Education, University of Lagos between January 2014 and January 2015.

Prof. Arigbabu belongs to numerous academic and professional associations, these include Mathematical Association of Nigeria, Science Teachers’ Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Mathematical Society, Southern African Association for Researchers in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education and the Science Association of Nigeria among others.
