Driver, conductor, three others die in Ogun auto crash


A driver of a Mazda commercial bus, bus conductor and three others reportedly die while 15 others were injured in an auto crash along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday.

Those who died were four males and a female, and they were all passengers in the ill-fated bus.

The commercial bus with number plate EPE 575 XA was said to have ran into a truck with number plate APP 397 YA while the truck driver was making a U-turn at an intersection.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the incident occurred at the Danliti U-turn point.

He said the driver of the Mazda commercial was speeding and lost control of the vehicle before it ran into the truck, adding that both vehicles were inbound Lagos.

Akinbiyi said, “According to eye witness account, both vehicles were inbound Lagos, when in an attempt by the low bed truck to make u-turn @ Danliti, the Mazda bus, which was coming from behind rammed into the truck due to reckless driving, fatigue and loss if control.

“Five passengers in the bus, (4m & 1f) lost their lives on the spot including the motorboy, while 15 passengers were injured (14 adults &1 todler).

“However, it can’t be ascertained if the death female victim is the mother of the todler.”

He said the accidented vehicles had been taken to Mowe Divisional Police Station, while corpses had been deposited at the morgue of Idera Private Hospital.

While commiserating with the family of the dead victims, TRACE Corps urged motorists to desist from reckless and excessive speed, and ensure they have adequate rest before embarking on any journey because of its attendant consequences.
