Christmas: Seven die, seven injured in Ogun as luxury bus crashes into vehicles

Seven persons reportedly died while seven other were injured as the driver of a luxury bus heading for the eastern part of the country lost control of the vehicles after a wrongful overtaking.

The bus was said to be conveying conveying 63 passengers early today which is Christmas day, and it crashed into two other vehicles.

According to traffic report from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Command, that the accident occurred on the Ososa bridge, along Benin-Ore highway at about 12.20 am.

The bus was said to have ran into a Mazda bus with number plate JJJ 862 XV, and a Toyota Sienna with number plate KRD 306 BJ.

The red-coloured Mercedes Benz bus reportedly belongs to Izu Chukwu Motors, Onitsha.

The vehicle was said to have taken off from Ojuelegba, Lagos, had 40 male adults, 15 female adults, five male children and three female children aboard as of the time of the incident.

The spokesperson of the Ogun State Command of the FRSC, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident.

Okpe said the remaining 49 persons were rescued unhurt, they are 34 men, seven women, five male children and three female children.

The suspected cause of the lone accident was wrongful overtaking and loss of control.

“The injured victims were rendered first-aid treatment while the deceased bodies were deposited at State Hospital Mortuary, Ijebu Ode,” Okpe told journalists.
