Like a recurring decimal, another three-storey building collapsed on Ibadan Street,Ebute Meta area of Lagos on Sunday.

The incident occurred, according to sources around 9.34pm.

The Head, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday.

Sadly she said some people residing in the ill-fated building were trapped under the rubble, but she explained that a search and rescue operation was ongoing to rescue the trapped victims.

ISome people however hinted that two people died while over 20 others were injured.

Adeseye’s statement read, “An alert of a collapsed three-storey building on 32 Ibadan Street, EbuteMeta, was received around 9.48pm on Sunday, with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service already at the scene.

“A search and rescue operation is ongoing to rescue some of the trapped victims. It is a residential building that collapsed. More updates will be communicated.”

Rescue teams from the Lagos State Ambulance Service, Lagos State Building Control Agency and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services had arrived the scene as first responders.

In recent times, building collapse is becoming synonymous with the state of aquatic splendor. A casein point was the 22-storey building that collapsed late last at Ikoyi area of the city, with many lives lost.

Committees had always been set up to address this ugly situation but the recipe seems to be far from reach.
