Seun Kuti has made it clear that he has no plans to mend fences with Afrobeats star Wizkid following comments he believes disrespected his father, the late Fela Kuti.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Selah Meditate Podcast, the Afrobeat musician was asked about where things stand between him and the Grammy-winning singer after their clash earlier in January 2026. The disagreement was sparked by comments from some of Wizkid’s fans, which Kuti felt insulted his father’s legacy.

Kuti stated firmly that there is no chance of reconciliation at the moment, saying he intends to keep the rift going indefinitely. “It’s on for life. You can’t say things about my dad and expect everything to be fine. There’s no coming back from that,” he said.
The conflict began when Kuti reacted strongly on social media to a Wizkid supporter who claimed the singer’s achievements had surpassed those of Fela Kuti. During several Instagram Live sessions, he criticised sections of Wizkid’s fanbase for what he described as disrespectful comments toward his father.
As tensions escalated, some fans fired back with insults directed at both Kuti and Fela. Kuti also called out Wizkid for not addressing the situation, suggesting his silence amounted to endorsement.
Wizkid later responded with a post on his Instagram story in which he asserted that he is bigger than Fela Kuti—a statement that sparked widespread debate online. Nigerians took to social media to argue over the comparison, further intensifying the controversy.
The renewed discussions also reignited interest in Fela Kuti’s legacy as a pioneer of Afrobeat, a genre he built by blending elements of jazz, funk, highlife, and traditional African sounds. Amid the debate, the Recording Academy announced that Fela would receive a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, becoming the first African to earn the honour. He was also recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo African artist.
Although the online exchanges have since died down, Seun Kuti maintains that the issue remains unresolved and suggests that only an apology from Wizkid could change his stance.
