In order to ensure safety of lives and property on Ogun 18 major traffic corridors, the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency ( TRACE ), has warned against illegal parking, wrongful overtaken and driving in a direction prohibited by traffic law (route violation).
TRACE Commander and Chief Executive Officer, Cdr. ‘Seni Ogunyemi gave this warning at a One-Day Stakeholders Interactive Session with Transport Unions and Associations in Ogun and Lagos States, at the TRACE Headquarters, former OGTV building, Ajebo Road, Abeokuta.
Cdr. Ogunyemi emphasised that though TRACE is not created to witch-hunt any motorist, it will henceforth be more decisive with any motorists that flouts traffic rules and regulations, more so that the ’ember’ months is around the corner.
The TRACE helmsman made reference to the unruly behaviour and overbearing attitude of articulated vehicle drivers most especially along Iyana Mortuary and Ajebo Road in Abeokuta to mention but a few, saying soonest, the hand of law will catch up with them.
Furthermore, Cdr. Ogunyemi, seeks for the understanding and mutual respect of the stakeholders by ensuring the provision of database information and proper sticker identification of articulated vehicles owned by them to force compliance by drivers.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Truck Owners Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, Mr. Samuel Alabi Shittu, appreciated the forum for the opportunity to discuss salient issues affecting safety of lives on our roads, especially as it affects transporters. He pleaded for more continuous engagement with stakeholders through such forum, promising to further engage his association on the need to always abide by the law.
In his own reaction, the Public Relations Officer of Mine Workers Union, Ogun State Chapter, Mr. Tunde Soneye, appeal to the state government to provide enough trailer parks along the major traffic corridors to ease the tension associated with wrongful parking by truck drivers, with the understanding that such gesture will serve as a source of revenue generation to the government.
In his own submission, Mr. Azees Salisu, a member of Truck Owners Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, appeal to the state government to engage in massive road repairs of damaged roads to make it motorable for the transporters.
Other associations and unions present at the stakeholders engagement are Lagos State Truck & Cargo Operators Committee, ( LASTCOC ), 1st Tipper and Lorry Association of Nigeria,Truck Drivers Association of Nigeria, Union of Tipper and Quarry of Nigeria and Allied Truck Transporters Association of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapters.
