Tragedy struck at the popular Enugada, Lafenwa, Abeokuta on Thursday when a truck descending a slope suffered a brake failure killing two Okada operators and their two passengers.
In the sad incident which occurred at 8.50pm, a Honda CR-V was also affected in the process but the driver escaped death, he suffered injuries.
NOTM online gathered that a passer-by was also injured in the accident.
Confirming the accident, the Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said the truck with number plate AAA 86 XX “developed a brake failure (mechanical) while descending from Itoku enroute Ago-Oba towards Enugada, Lafenwa, and ramned into two motorcycles and a Honda CRV, killing the two motorcyclists and the two pillion passengers they were both carrying, while the driver of the Honda CR-V car was injured.”
He said those who died were two males and two females.
However, he said the driver and the motor boy of the ill-fated truck disappeared and were no where to be found by the time the truck stopped.
He gave the number plates of the two motorcycles as DE 968 VC, and AAB 387 VP while that of the Honda CR-V was EKY 857 GU.
Meanwhile Akinbiyi added that corpses of the victims had been deposited at a morgue of a hospital in Abeokuta.
While the TRACE, FRSC and the Police commiserated with the families of the deceased, they warned motorists to service their vehicles as and when due and ensure major mechanical components are in good working condition before setting out on a journey.
