News reaching NOTM online indicated that a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, in a unanimous judgment, dismissed the appeal by Oladipupo Adebutu, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last governorship election in Ogun State.
In the judgement read by Justice Tijjani Abubakar, he said Adebutu and his party failed to prove their case.
Justice Abubakar resolved all the issues raised for determination against the appellants and held that the appeal was without merit, and thus dismissed it.
“In the end, this appeal is unmeritorious and deserves to be dismissed. It is hereby dismissed,” Abubakar held.
He affirmed Governor Dapo Abiodun as the duly elected governor.
In March 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Abiodun winner with 276,298 votes, while Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 262,38 and Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came a distant third with 94,754 votes.
