A fatal auto crash involving a truck and a commercial Mazda bus on Tuesday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed six lives while six others suffered varying degrees of injuries.
In the accident which occurred at 6.05pm around the U-turn in front of Car Park C, Redemption City, three other passengers in the commercial bus escaped unhurt.
Traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency indicated that the bus travelling at a top speed ran into the truck which was making a U-turn at this point.
However, the Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said the driver of the truck on realising what happened sped off from the scene.
He said, “According to an eyewitness, the truck driver was making a U-turn while the Mazda bus travelling with excessive speed rammed into the truck, immediately the truck driver saw what happened, he drove off.”
Akinbiyi added that “there were 15 occupants in the bus, made up of 14 males and one female, six died(five males and one female), six were injured, while three were unhurt.”
He explained that the remains of the other dead had been deposited at private morgues in Sagamu, while the injured are receiving treatment at the hospital within the Redemption City and another private hospital.
