Two Lagos residents who travelled for a church inauguration in Onikoko area at Itori on Sunday 27th August drown in a river as they went swimming after the event.
The Ogun State Police Command gave the names of the victims as Femi Akinola (32) aof Odo Eran, Itire, Lagos State and Tunde Falade(35) of Kola Alagbado in Lagos.
The state Police Public Relations Officer SP Omolola Odutola they were members of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church.
She said one Adebayo Adeosun on the fateful day reported at the station at about 1830hrs, that some boys numbering about seven who came from Lagos on the 27th of August to attend his church inauguration, left the church premises to swim, and two of them got drowned in the process.
The state spokesperson added that spirited efforts were made to rescue them from the heavy tides, but the help came too late.
She said they were rushed to the Health Centre at Itori where they were unfortunately confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.
Odutola explained further that the Divisional Police Officer, Itori, CSP Olayemi Jacob detailed his team to visit the scene upon receipt of the report, with and he ascertained that there were no marks of violence and no foul play suspected.
She said their remains had since been evacuated to Ifo General Hospital for autopsy and later deposited in the same morgue.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Police Command, Abiodun while extending the deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time, assured that the Command remains committed to promoting public safety and preventing such tragedies in the future.
He however warned restive youths to steer clear of rivers whose depth or tides they cannot ascertain.
