The Ogun State Police Command says it has commenced investigations into murder of 62-year-old Adetunji Ajayi, and called for anyone who has information on the matter to come forward as it would be treated anonymously.
This was contained in a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer SP Omolola Odutola.
The late Ajayi was reportedly macheted to death by unknown assailants on the 4th of July 2023 who gained entrance into the home of the deceased while others in the house were away.
“The unfortunate incident happened at about 1500hrs after the family members of the deceased went about their various daily business, leaving the physically-challenged husband and father at home.
“His family members at the close of work, on arrival met Late Adetunji Ajayi lifeless in the pool of his own blood,” the statement indicated.
She said the Divisional Crime Officer, Imasayi, observed that the buzz line of the deceased was taken away, while his remains have been evacuated to General Hospital Ilaro.
While the state Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun condemned the “senseless killing”, he has assured the family of the deceased that the killers, will definitely not go scotfree but justice must be done.
“The command Headquarters sympathizes with members of the family for their misfortune and painful loss, and further assures that investigations is at double quick time to unravel the crime please.”
Meanwhile, in the wake of recent attackers on some remote villages greeted by killings and kidnappings, especially the case of the Redeemed Christian Church of God at Omun Pepe village, Owode-Egba, where a pastor was killed and foiled kidnap of about eight others, the CP has advised religious leaders to inform security agents about religious activities.
The CP according to a statement by the state PPRO, has said that “before religion activities are held at any centre, podium, location, or area, authorities of the religious body,should approach their nearest Area Commands , Divisional Police Station for adequate security and coverage, taking into consideration that early evenings would be more secure for worshippers to hold their services and return home safe on time before sunset.”
It further indicated that “religious organizations are promptly advised to cooperate with the ongoing contingency plans of the Ogun State Police Commands as strategies geared towards halting the trend has been put in place.
“Members of the Public are further advised to go about their daily businesses without fear, anxiety or panic, but they should be very security conscious and always be on their guard.
“Residents are their personal police, before the Nigeria Police Force. Meaning that much awareness is still going round across all media, they should adopt personal safety,by adhering to security awareness and not expose themselves to the advantage of criminals, but they must tighten all loose ends to outrun unforeseen attacks making them stay ahead of the criminals.”
Recall that CP Alamutu Abiodun has warned cultists, kidnappers and others involved any form of criminality to relocate from the state or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.
