Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command say they have arrested a Benin prison escapee escapee, Festus Okoeguare and one Nancinant Paul Joshua for vandalising electricity cable.
They were nabbed on the 16th of July at Ogbere area of the state.
Crime report from the command indicated that the two suspects were arrested following an information received by policemen at Ogbere divisional headquarters that the power installation at Hallmark University junction along Sagamu-Benin Expressway has been vandalized by some hoodlums.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the Dvisional Police Officer Ogbere division mobilized his men in conjunction with men of Amotekun corps and moved to the scene.
He added that when the hoodlums sighted the security men, they took to their heels while a get -away vehicle they parked quickly zoomed off with some cables.
Oyeyemi said the operatives hotly chased them and two among them were apprehended.
The PPRO stated, “During interrogation, it was discovered that Festus Okoeguare was an escapee from White House Correctional Centre located at Sapele road Benin city.
“It was further revealed that the escapee was convicted for murder in 2010 and was sentenced to death by hanging. It was during the Endsars protest that the prison was broken into and he escaped.”
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole has directed that the suspects be transferred to theState Criminal Investigation Department for proper profiling and onward transfer to the Correctional Centre.
