ASUU/NLC protest: Ogun police warn hoodlums to steer clear

OgunState Police Command has warned hoodlums to steer clear of the state during the Nigeria Labour Congress solidarity action to identify with Academic Staff Union of Universities in the state.

The command also assured the general public that their safety is  guaranteed before, during and after the said protest.

The protest holds today, Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th.

In a statement released on Monday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, he warned that though it is the right of the unions and their affiliates to protest, it must be done within the ambit of the law and civility

The statement read in part, “In as much as protest is one of the inalienable rights of the citizens, the command wishes to appeal to NLC and other affiliated groups who might wanted to participate in the said protest to be civil and peaceful in order not to violate the rights of others.

“The command hereby appeals to the general public to go about their lawful businesses without fear of intimidation or harassment, as Police and other security agencies will be fully on ground to monitor the situation so as to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the process.”

Oyeyemi advised parents and guardians to warn their children and wards who may want to use the opportunity to foment trouble to have a rethink or face the consequences.
