Motorists and residents of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State woke up on Thursday morning to discover the return of long queues at some petrol filling stations.
Our correspondent noticed that some major filling stations closed their gates to customers, probably due to lack of Premium Motor Spirit popularly know as petrol.
The NNPC mega station at Oke Mosan axis was not dispensing fuel for close to two days now, and the same obtained this morning, as its gates were closed.
At the Fatgbems Filling Station located directly opposite the NNPC mega station has yet to start dispensing fuel when our correspondent passed through the axis this morning.
However, a petrol tanker was seen parked within the facility waiting to discharge its content. A long queue of vehicles decorated its frontage, stretching almost up to about 200 metres.
Long queue of vehicles also greeted the Mobil Filling Station at Kolobo/Pansheke area, the same thing obtained at the NIPco located close to Moore Junction.
The Mobil out at Eleweran was not dispensing fuel while Ayomide Filling Station located less than 200 metres away was dispensing but with a long queue to contend with.
The NIPCo located along Alabata-Isolu-Emere axis was dispensing fuel but had to also contend with a long queue.
Enyo filling station located at Asero however closed its gate to customers.
Residents also were seen trooping to the filling stations armed with various sizes of Jerry cans to purchase petrol either for their vehicles, generators among others.
No reason has been adduced for the current resurface of queues, motorists and residents are expressing anxiety that scarcity of petrol may follow.
A motorist who gave his name as Sanni Rashidi said this was how the last fuel scarcity started shortly after the importation of adulterated fuel.
He said, “Hope we are not going to witness another round of fuel scarcity. Queues have started resurfacing across the capital city.”
Another resident noted in a post, “Queues are rising again in Abeokuta.”
However, the South-West Zone of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria said it will direct its members to dispense Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) at N180 per litre.
The zonal chairman, Alhaji Dele Tajudeen, in a statement issued on Wednesday, also said that the price of diesel per litre would equally be increased.
Tajudeen stated that the step would be taken if the appropriate regulatory agency of government failed to address the issue of irregular supply of its products to its members.
Recall that the nation reeled under fuel scarcity few months back, when motorists and Nigerians faced hardship in commuting and even buying the products at exorbitant price with a litre selling between N180 and N200 in some filling stations.
