The Vice-chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof. Kolawole Salako says 80 per cent of projects started by his led-administration have been completed.
He said this on Tuesday at a press briefing heralding the 28th and 29th combined convocation ceremonies of the institution slated to hold on Wednesday and Thursday within the campus.
He said apart from construction of new buildings, the professor of soil science explained that he had always ensured they are functional through provision of required equipment to create a conductive atmosphere for teaching, learning and research.
Prof. Salako stated that financial support for infrastructural development came mainly from the Federal Government, which comprised annual capital funds, Tertiary Education Trust Fund(TEtfund) and NEEDS Assessment Intervention/Revitalisation Funds.
He said, “We planned construction of buildings along with provision of equipment that would make them functional e.g furniture, laboratory equipment and teaching facilities.
“Out of 27 buildings, only one was not included in the provision of equipment due to paucity of funds. Eighty per cent of projects started by our administration have been completed.”
The Vice-chancellor who said his administration had also completed two building projects he inherited from the previous administration, which are the Academic Complex and College of Plant Science and Crop Production Phase 2 buildings, added that he is poised to complete the “yet-to-be completed Postgraduate hostel,also left by the previous administration, with work starting on it this month.
“Today, we commissioned five out of all the projects. There are over 150 projects and projects do not necessarily mean only buildings, there are machines and equipment.
“In all these projects, we have almost all of them completed, they are between 80 to 85 per cent completed.”
Prof. Salako ascribed his achievements to the grace, mercy and favour of God, as well as “contributions from people of goodwill, including staff, students, community leaders and security agents.”
The Vice-chancellor also thanked his critics whom he said have made him to perform better.
Speaking on the number of graduands for 2018/2019 academic session, Prof. Salako said the university produced 3,202 graduands.
Out of this number, said 106 recorded First class grade, while 30 of the total graduands qualified as veterinary doctors.
Concerning 2019/2020 academic session, the university graduated a total number of 2,696 students. Out of this number, 95 bagged First Class and the College of Veterinary medicine graduated 28 veterinary doctors.
For the Postgraduate Class, a total number of 450 postgraduate awards were recorded for 2018/2019 academic session while 272 were awarded in 2019/2020.
