Police nab man in Ogun for child stealing, accomplices on the run

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command say they have arrested a 35- year- old man Sunday Alani for allegedly stealing a one- year old girl at Atolashe village in Odeda Local Government Area of the state.

Crime report from the command indicated that the suspect was nabbed on Wednesday  23rd of February 2022.

The suspect reportedly grabbed the baby girl as she strayed from her mother who was frying gaari(cassava flakes).

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said it was a passerby, who noticed the suspicious movement of the suspect that called the attention of the mother who then raised the alarm.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said subsequently a distress call was put across to the policemen attached to Odeda divisional headquarters.

Acting on the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, Odeda CSP Femi Olabode quickly mobilized his men in conjunction with So Safe Corps men and moved to the scene.

Oyeyemi explained that chased the suspect to the bush where he was arrested and the child rescued from him.

During interrogation, he added that the suspect confessed to the crime, and informed the police that he came to the area with two women who are his accomplices.

The state police spokesman said, “He explained further that he had previously stolen two children from Egbeda in Lagos and Akute area of Ogun state.

“According to him, once he succeeded in stolen a child, he will hand such child to the two women who will give him the sum of N80,000.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole has ordered a massive manhunt for the two women accomplices of the suspect with the view to bringing them to justice.

The CP also directed that the suspect be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
