The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu says he will not allow miscreants to hijack the #Endsars memorial protest in the state.

He stated this while fielding questions fromĀ  journalists at the Lekki tollgate axis, a location where some youths were reportedly killed on October 20, 2020 by security agents.

He said the Lekki tollgate area was a business axis and he would not allow any gathering or blockade of the road under any guise of a protest.

Odumosu added that he was told on the telephone by one of the youths on the #Endsars probe panel set up by the Lagos State Government’ that the protest had ended at 10am, and that they had left the tollgate ‘drive through protest.’

A man who claimed to be a Uber driver was, however brutalized and teargased as he said he was apprehended while running away abandoning his car when the police started shooting.

Some security men tried in vain to put the driver inside the Black Maria but he resisted claiming his innocence.

As media camera focused on the Uber driver, the security operatives one after the other left him, but his car seemed to have been towed away.

When asked pointedly that journalists had been threatened to leave the tollgate area, the CP said, “there is always a Judas, whoever did that must have been out of ignorance or overzealousness.”

He later publicly apologized to the Arise TV team who raised the issue of being harassed by policemen earlier in the day because they deployed a drone to cover the protest, promising that investigation would be carried out on the incident.

Some persons were equally taken away in no fewer than two Black Maria.
