LASU gets second female VC, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello

A former acting vice-chancellor of Lagos State University, LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has been confirmed as the 9th substantive vice- chancellor of the institution.

The new vice-chancellor is the wife of Lagos state commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, and she is  the second substantive female Vice-Chancellor the institution has been privileged to have.

The first female Vice-Chancellor was the late Prof. Jadesola Akande, regarded as the first Nigerian female professor of Law.

Recall that the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had to dissolve the first selection team because it allegedly worked in favour of a particular candidate.

Olatunji Bello, is a professor of Physiology.

The 57-year-old academic was born on April 23, 1964, in Lagos.

Her appointment was announced in a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, titled, ‘Sanwo-Olu approves appointment of Vice Chancellor for LASU’, on Thursday.
