One dead, seven survive as gas truck falls on two cars

One person died while seven others escaped unhurt when a moving gas truck fell on two cars at Orimerumu axis along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at 7.03am on Saturday.

Traffic report indicated that the vehicles involved were all travelling outside Lagos when the crash occurred.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said the vehicles involved are unregistered Volvo gas truck, Toyota Corolla with number plate EQ 165 LSR and Toyota Sienna with number plate FKJ 341 GC.

He added that according to an eyewitness account, the driver of the gas-laden truck lost control of the vehicle due to speeding and it fell on both cars which were equally on motion.

He said it was only the driver of one of the cars that died while the driver of the gas truck ran away.

Akinbiyi said, “There were eight people in the two cars, consisting of three males, three females and two minors.

“One male presumed dead, while seven others escaped unhurt

“The Toyota Corolla conveyed father, mother and two minors (their children) while

the Toyota Sienna conveyed a male (the driver) and two females who escaped unhurt.”

He said the corpse of the male victim had been deposited at a morgue of a private hospital at Lotto area along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Akinbiyi said traffic was initially affected by the incident but later cleared by TRACE and other security agencies.

While TRACE Corps commiserates with the family of the deceased, it advised tanker drivers to maintain their vehicles properly and adequately as well as control their speed in case of the risk and danger associated with same.
