Security operatives nab Sunday Igboho in Benin Republic

Security operatives have reportedly arrested Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, in Cotonou,  Republic of Benin.

He was said to have been nabbed at an airport in the Francophone country on Monday night.

Report has it that Sunday Igboho is expected to be repatriated to Nigeria today (Tuesday) from Republic of Benin.

A source said, “He was arrested in Cotonou while he tried to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany. The security forces in Benin Republic should repatriate him to Nigeria on Tuesday.”

Recall that the DSS had earlier said Sunday Igboho was trying to get a new passport, in a bid to flee overseas.

The operatives of the DSS had raided Igboho’s Soka, Ibadan residence on July 1, 2021, where they arrested 12 of his aides and killed two of them in a gun duel.

The Federal Government had placed the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Customs Service on alert to stop him from leaving the country.

Meanwhile, the leader of Ilana Omo Oodua, Prof. Emeritus Banji Akintoye, has said the body was working to see that Sunday Igboho was not  extradited to Nigeria from Republic of Benin.
