Ogun govt institutes tax relief payment system in markets

The authority of Ogun State Internal Revenue Service and the 20 Local Government Areas in the state have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to harmonise daily tickets for tax relief payment system issued to traders in markets.

According to a statement made available to this medium, the Executive Chairman, OGIRS, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye disclosed this in Abeokuta, the state capital.

He disclosed this while speaking during the signing of the MoU and official launch of the harmonised daily tickets at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He said the agreement between OGIRS and LGAs was a step to ensure proper revenue management that would help develop markets and take the tate to a greater height.

Olaleye explained that the new arrangement would be more efficient in the process of collecting taxes in markets, as well as eradicating issuance of fake tickets.

On his part, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, stated that the harmonisation has a legal backing, assuring that the initiative would not only increase the revenue of the LGAs, but avail market men and women the opportunity to fulfill their civic responsibilities with ease.

Earlier in his address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Revenue, Mr. Adegbenga Adeshina, said the collaboration would enhance revenue generation in the state and at the Local Government levels.

In her remark, the Iyaloja of Yewaland, Alhaja Anifat Abass, who called for upgrade of some markets across the LGAs, noted that market men and women would always support any government policy for improved socio-economic activities in the state.

She urged the concerned authorities to ensure effective monitoring to achieve set objectives.

In his reaction, Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria in the state, Comrade Semiu Lawal pledged the readiness of his colleagues to support the laudable initiative, appealing to them to ensure a conducive market environment.
