Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command say a suspected kidnapper was shot dead on Friday 4th of June 2021 in Mologede area of Odeda Local Government of the state.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, this happened after the Divisional Police Officer, Bode Olude Divisional headquarters received a distress call at about 12 noon, that a tipper driver had been kidnapped by a group of people suspected to be herdsmen.
He said the DPO, Durojaye Rotimi, mobilised his men, the local hunters, men of ‘So safe Corps’ as well as policemen from adjoining police stations and moved to the area.
Oyeyemi explained that while they were combing the bush, the kidnappers were sighted in the forest where they engaged the policemen in gun battle.
He said in the process, one of the kidnappers was shot on the leg, while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries, and the victim was rescued unhurt.
The state police spokesman added that one single- barreled gun was recovered from the hoodlums, while the suspect gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun who commended his men for their display of gallantry, has ordered a massive manhunt for other fleeing members of the gang.
He also applauded the support given to the police by men of ‘So safe Corps’, hunters and Oodua Peoples Congress, and sought for continuation of such cooperation.
