Ogun State Police Command says it has impounded no fewer than 70 unregistered motorcycles through the task force it formed in conjunction with other security agencies in the state to clamp down on such motorcycles.
This it said came on the heels on the involvement of some riders of unregistered motorcycles in disorderly behavior and wanton destruction of properties in the last few weeks.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer,Abimbola Oyeyemi, the operation commenced on Wednesday 2nd of June 2021, in Abeokuta metropolis, and it is going to be extended to other parts of the state in the coming weeks.
He said during the operation coordinated by the assistant commissioner of police in charge of operations, Bolanle Muritala, “no fewer than seventy unregistered motorcycles were impounded by the task force.”
Oyeyemi added that the impounded motorcycles “will not be released until the owner of such motorcycle provided evidence of its registration, and the number plate which must be fixed on the motorcycle.”
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police Edward Ajogun has commended the task force for the professional manner in which they carried out the operation.
He also commended the leadership of Okada riders association for their supportive role and assured them that “the operation is going to be a continuous exercise.”
