Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has charged the Chairman and members of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission to be firm and fair in the conduct of the forthcoming local government election in the state.
He gave them this charge shortly after they took their oath of office inside the exco chamber at the Governor’s office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta on Thursday.
They took their oath of office exactly 4.25pm.
The chairman of OGSIEC is Mr Babatunde Osibodu and the members are Mr. Tunji Akoni, Mr Omolaja Tajudeen Soyeolu, Chief Ayodele Bankole, Olugbemisola Bose Onasanya and Chief (Mrs) Remilekun Olaopa.
Almost all of them came with their spouses.
The governor who said the formation of the OGSIEC would create excitement in the state, noted it would trigger political activities once more after the 2019 elections.
Governor Abiodun who congratulated the team, advised them to be resourceful and innovative in conducting a free, fair and credible LG election, adding only true democracy could guarantee development.
Governor Abiodun said to achieve development at the grassroots level, an effective machinery like OGSIEC must be put in place to create a conducive environment.
While he said the members have been carefully selected, stating that they are apolitical and unbiased, the governor urged them to see their appointment as a call to service.
He vowed to entrench democratic values that would outlive the administration.
Responding Osibodu said his friends were apprehensive when he was appointed as the chairman of the state electoral body, but he promised to do his best with the help of God.
While he said he knew the enormity of the responsibility placed in their hands, he promised that the elections the OGSIEC would conduct would be a benchmark for all other elections not only in Ogun State but Nigeria as a whole.
He, however called for cooperation f everyone as the body would carry along all stakeholders such as politicians, royal fathers, journalists, security agencies among others.
Osibodu thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in the team.
