#ENDSARS 2: Police nab 40 protesters at Lekki tollgate, granted bail

Lagos State Police Command says it arrested 40 suspects during the Season 2 #ENDSARS protest at the Lekki tollgate in Lagos on Saturday,among them was a comedian popularly known as Mr Macaroni.

They were later charged for conspiracy, conduct breach of public peace and violation of COVID-19 protocols.

This was contained in a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

He said the suspects had gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate plaza creating tension and behaving in such a manner that could cause breach of public peace without due regard for COVID-19 protocols “major of which are use of nose masks and social distancing.”

The suspects were later arraigned before a mobile court at Panti, Yaba accordingly but were granted bail by the court.

 They will appear in court on the next date of adjournment, 2nd March, 2021, with the certificate of COVID-19 test.

The protesters who were protesting the order to reopen the Lekki tollgate by the panel of enquiry into the October 20, 2020 set up by the Lagos State Government.

They had argued that the panel has yet to conclude its assignment by treating all petitions submitted to it.

Again, the Federal and the Lagos State Governments and security agents had warned against the holding of the #ENDSARS Season 2 protest.

Many celebrities, human rights activists and notable bodies had taken to social media and other platforms to express their support for the protesters.
