A driver of a petrol tanker reportedly burnt beyond recognition as the tanker fell, hit the ground and exploded.
The incident occurred on Friday along Ijebu Ode-Benin Expressway around Atoyo in Ogbere axis.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr.Babatunde Akinbiyi said an eyewitness told the TRACE that the driver was speeding and in the process lost the control of the vehicle, leading to the fatal fall.
He said at the time of the incident, the driver was the only occupant of the ill-fated vehicle.
Akinbiyi added that the number plate of the vehicle could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
He said the operatives of the state Fire Service later put out the fire, while vehicular traffic along the corridor later returned to normalcy when the wreckage was later removed by the men of the TRACE and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Akinbiyi said, “The driver, according to eyewitness account was the only occupant in the vehicle when the unfortunate incident happened and was burnt to ashes before rescue effort could reach him.
“The case has bern incident at the Divisional Police Station, Ogbere.”
The TRACE warned all the articulated vehicle drivers, especially tanker drivers to avoid reckless driving, speeding, drunk driving and have adequate rest before embarking on any journey in view of its attendant consequences.
