Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command say they have arrested a 25-year- old sales boy Peter Okenu, who allegedly masterminded the robbing of his boss, Stephen Anyi, at Ifo area of the state.
The incident, according to the police, happened on Thursday 17th of December 2020.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the victim of the robbery operation had reported at Ifo Police Station that on the fateful day that his house situated at Kajola Phase 2 area of Ifo was invaded at about 2am by a seven-man robbery gang who were armed with guns, cutlasses and axe.
He added that the victim said they held him and his family hostage before dispossessing them of cash sum of N150,000, his laptop, phones, plasma television and his Toyota highlander with number plate KJA 38 FZ which they used in carrying away the looted items.
After the report had been made by the victim, he said the Divisional Police Officer, Ifo, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle detailed crack detectives to go after the robbers with the view to bringing them to book within the shortest possible time.
Oyeyemi said the sales boy was arrested following a painstaking investigation embarked upon by detectives from Ifo Divisional Headquarters who have been on the trail of the robbery gang since 17th of December 2020 when the case was reported.
He said, “The detectives who have since then embarked on intelligence and technical investigation were able to trace the hoodlums to Mushin area of Lagos State where they were about to dispose the Toyota highlander and rounded up four members of the gang namely: Ibrahim Arowolo (24), Sowemimo Faruk (18), Yusuf Azeez (23) and Yakubu Ibrahim (31).”
Oyeyemi added that during interrogation, they informed the police that it was the victim’s sale boy, who planned with the gang to rob his master.
He said, “They stated further that the sales boy who was in-charge of the victim’s shop at Sango met them and gave the description of his boss residence, hence the sales boy was promptly arrested and he has confessed to the commission of the crime.”
Recovered from them, according to Oyeyemi are; Toyota highlander with number plate KJA 38 FZ, one locally-made single-barrelled cut-to-size gun, one locally-made double -barrelled pistol, three cutlasses and four different types of phones.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, who commended his men for the display of vibrant intelligence investigation has directed that the case be transferred to the Violent Crime Intervention Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
He also ordered that the fleeing members of the gang be hunted for and apprehended within the shortest possible period.
