Ogun police recovered N109m property from suspects in six months

The Ogun State Police Command says it recovered property which include vehicles and cash worth N109m from suspects between July and December 2020 in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, disclosed this on Thursday, as he paraded another set of 47 suspects at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Within the same period, which covered the period since he assumed duty in the state,  he said the command also arrested 2,735 criminals.

Concerning the 47 suspects, Ajogun said they were arrested for various offences ranging from armed robbery, cultism to human trafficking and murder among others.

Giving the further breakdown,  he added that 113 armed robbers, 227 cultists, 24 kidnappers, 47 rapists and 2,324 others were arrested within the period under review.

Besides, he stated that 14 armed robbery suspects met their Waterloo during gun battles with operatives of the command.

While Ajogun said  the command recovered 57 various types of firearms, 82 different types of ammunitions and 31 vehicles, he added that the command secured 45 convictions while 1,139 suspects are still undergoing prosecution in courts across the state.

He expressed his commitment to rid the state of crimes and criminal elements, even in 2021

Ajogun said, “The command will not rest on its oars in the coming year in ensuring adequate security and safety of the people of Ogun state.

“We will continue to clamp down heavily on criminals, most especially those involve in violent crimes such as armed robbery, murder, cultism and kidnapping.”
