Ogun outlaws waste cart pushers over alleged crime complicity

Ogun State Government says it has outlawed all waste cart pushers from operating in the state with immediate effect, as it claims their complicity in crimes in the state.

It stated that recent security reports had indicted the waste cart pushers of being accomplices to men of the underworld.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority, Ola Oresanya, said these in a statement in Abeokuta.

He noted many of them were foreigners and people gave them unfettered access to their homes and company premises without being conscious of the security risk they constituted.

Oresanya who was a former MD, Lagos State Waste Management Authority,  warned that henceforth any waste cart pusher caught operating in the state would be arrested and his cart crushed.

The statement read in part, “While they are operating, our people innocently open their premises and commercial outlets to them for the evacuation of their wastes, but unknowingly to them, these cart pushers who are mostly foreigners collate vital information on how to compromise the security of their premises and pass them to the men of the underworld and sometimes join them to rob and terrorize our people.”

Oresanya, added that with their activities, the cart pushers “deface the aesthetic beauty of the state by their indiscriminate dumping of refuse” and “Their exit is good riddance to  bad rubbish.”

He said there were the waste PSP already operating in the state which the residents should patronise for prompt, effective and structured service.
