Ogun State Government has honoured Nigerian-British boxer, Anthony Joshua, by naming a street after him.
This honour was announced by the chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Gbenga Banjo.
The 31-year-old boxer hails from Sagamu town.
Banjo said the Cinema Road located in the council had been renamed ‘Anthony Joshua Way.’
Announcing this cheering news at Joshua’s family house in Sagamu on Tuesday, Banjo said the decision was to show appreciation to the boxing legend “for making Sagamu and Remoland proud.”
Recall the champion earlier this month retained his three world title belts with a ninth-round knockout of Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev.
The Remo Growth and Development Foundation on Wednesday commended the Sagamu Local Government naming the road after Joshua.
Its Chief Operating Officer, Yemisi Oluwole, in a statement described Joshua as a Remo International Ambassador.
She appreciated leaders and stakeholders in the state who made it possible.
She, however urged the youth of Remoland to emulate Joshua by being the best in their careers and shun acts of violence.
“They should always be law abiding and stay away from any act that can lead to social unrest,” Oluwole said.
