Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command say a suspected highway robber has been shot dead, while a gang of robbers engaged them in a shootout along Sagamu-Ikenne Expressway.
The incident according to them happened on Sunday 6th of December 2020
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspected robber met his Waterloo when a distress call was made to the police at Ikenne Divisional headquarters that a gang of armed robbers were operating in between Adelex filling station and Ladgroup company, and were dispossessing people of their valuables at gun point.
He said the Dbisional Police Officer, Ikenne Division, Ndoukauba Onuma mobilised his patrol team and personnel of 71 Police Mobile Force to the scene.
He added that “when they sighted the policemen, the hoodlums engaged them in gun battle consequent upon which one of the robbers was shot dead while others escaped into the bush with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.”
Oyeyemi said a mock gun, and a Toyota Corolla car with number plate KNN 84 TD which was snatched from the owner were recovered from them.
Meanwhile, he said the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun who expressed satisfaction about the quick response of his men to the distress call has ordered massive manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang.
He also appealed to the general public especially hospitals and traditional healers to notify the police if they sight anybody with gun shot injury in their area.
He said the CP has assured the good people of the state that the command was determined more than ever to ensure their safety at all time, “especially as we are approaching the Yuletide.”
