#ENDSARS: Sanwo-Olu imposes 24-hour curfew in Lagos

Following the hijack of the ongoing #ENDSARS protests by hoodlums in Lagos, the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has declared a 24-hour curfew staring from 4pm today.

He, however, exempted essential service providers and first responders.

This clampdown came on the heels of gale of destruction, killings and other vices which had greeted the protests across the state especially Ikorodu, Ketu,Orile Iganmu among others.

Hoodlums were said to have set ablaze the Orile Police Station around 9.45am.

This medium had predicted early this morning that some states might invoke curfew to curtail the excesses of the hoodlums, as done in Edo.

Announcing the curfew at about noon today, the governor noted he had watched with shock how what began as a peaceful #EndSARS protest has degenerated into a monster that is threatening the well-being of the society.

He said lives and limbs had been lost as “criminals and miscreants are now hiding under the umbrella of these protests to unleash mayhem on our state.”

He said, “As a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown a commitment to the movement #ENDSARS, we will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state.

“I, therefore, hereby impose a 24-hour curfew on all parts of the State as from 4pm today, 20th October,2020.

“Nobody, except essential service providers and first responders must be found on the streets.”
