Ogun police arrest two suspected fake soldiers

   Barely 72 hours after suspected seven-man robbery gang in army camouflage uniforms were apprehended by operatives of the Ogun State Police command, another two fake soldiers have been nabbed.

The suspects are: Joseph Uzor (27) and Obadeyi Quadr (27).

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the duo were arrested on Tuesday 22nd of September 2020 arrested in Sagamu area of the state.

He said they were arrested following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer Sakura Division that four men cladded in Nigerian Army camouflage uniforms suddenly alighted from a Sienna bus at Sabo market Sagamu and caused pandemonium there.

Oyeyemi added that the suspects had beaten up an elderly market woman and distrupted commercial activities in the market.

He said while this was going on, a serving soldier arrived the scene and demanded for the identities of the suspects.

He, however, said instead of identifying themselves, they started boarding commercial motorcycles to escape from the scene hence the distress call to the police.

 On the strength of the distress call, the DPO Sakura Division, Dahunsi Ronald, quickly led his patrol team to the scene where two of the suspects were arrested with the help of members of the public.

 However, Oyeyemi explained that the angry mob descended on them and attempted to hijack the suspects but they were quickly whisked away from the scene by the police.

  Recovered from them, according to Oyeyemi are two pairs of army camouflage uniforms, two pairs of black boots, one camouflage vest, one camouflage fez cap, one Samsung phone and sum of N10,800.00

 He said the suspects are strongly suspected to be part of the robbery syndicate who used to operate in military outfit along Sagamu -Benin Expressway some of who were recently apprehended.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

He equally directed an indepth investigation into their past activities before arraigning them before a court of competent jurisdiction.
