The Ogun State Government says it will commence the payment of the new minimum wage to its workers starting next month, October.
This promise came as the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state called off its one-week warning strike which had entered its third day on Friday September 18, 2020.
Recall that the labour leaders had declared the one-week warning strike last Tuesday September 15, over their grouse of non-payment of the new minimum wage, and non-payment of backlogs of gratuities among others.
However on Friday, the state Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole disclosed shortly after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between representatives of government and the organised labour at the Governor’s office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, that the strike had been called off.
Bankole while calling off the strike said the state government had agreed to commence the implementation of the signed new minimum wage from next month(October) and appealed to all workers in the state to go back to their duty posts.
He said, “The organised labour in the state has decided to call off the on going industrial action.
“We want to call on our members across the State that we have been able to get the commitment of the government as to their welfare matters hence the strike is hereby called off.
